Dear Brothers:

Building a strong and healthy Alpha Phi Omega Chapter should be an established goal for EVERY Chapter.

A strong and healthy Chapter ensures that a high quality program of Leadership, Friendship and Service remains constantly alive in the years ahead on your campus so students who follow you will have the opportunity to become Brothers of Alpha Phi Omega.

While our National Fraternity encourages every Brother to replace themselves every semester/quarter in which they are active, Chapters should also be setting goals to maintain their size and to increase their membership by reaching out to more students on campus.

One of your membership goals should be to increase the number of Pledges by a "Net of 2" over what was recruited and reported in the previous Pledge Class and, have a "Net of 2" new Active Members over what was initiated and reported in the previous class.

If every Chapter would have a "Net 2" increase of Pledges and Actives, Alpha Phi Omega could grow by more than 700 additional Brothers each semester/quarter. This small growth from every Chapter would go a long way to strengthen our National Fraternity in a number of ways such as:

-- Providing more service opportunities to benefit our Fraternity, campuses, communities and nation.

-- Providing students more opportunities to develop their personal leadership skills that will benefit them well after graduation.

-- Sharing the opportunity for more students on your campus to become an APO Brother and thus increasing the potential for a greater experience of Leadership, Friendship and Service.

-- To slowly and steadily increase the growth of our Chapters and ensure that each Chapter has a strong and healthy future. This also has an exponential effect in helping our Fraternity meet and exceed our national membership goals.

As we begin the new semester/quarter and start the planning for our winter/spring Pledge classes, every Chapter should make the commitment to increase their Pledge classes by two more students.

During your planning process, take a few minutes to brainstorm with your Brothers:

-- Identify those students who were interested in joining last fall, but who could not commit because of other obligations -- maybe they can make that commitment this semester/quarter to join our Fraternity.

-- Ask students that you met last fall or already this semester/quarter in your classes who you think might be interested in joining Alpha Phi Omega.

-- Reach out to students in your dorm or in other student organizations on campus and invite them to your next service project or fellowship event before you begin your winter/spring rush activities.

-- Extend an invitation to another student organization to join your Chapter in planning a joint service project on campus or in the community for later this spring as part of your National Youth Service Day project. This could line up a list of prospective members for next fall's pledge class. You have nothing to lose by asking and your Chapter might gain some outstanding Brothers. In a recent survey of Chapters, word of mouth was the No. 1 way APO Chapters recruited new members.

To help promote the Fraternity's "Net 2" initiative, all Chapters were sent a mini basketball and hoop late last fall.

Your Chapter has the ball and NOW is the time to "Net 2" for Alpha Phi Omega.

(And yes, your Chapter is HIGHLY ENCOURAGED to RUN UP THE SCORE THIS AND EVERY SEMESTER/QUARTER !!!!)

Fraternally,
