Fellow Alumni in the National Capital Area:
My name is Kenneth Hunter. Like you, I am an Alpha Phi Omega alum
living in the National Capital Area (Northern Virginia-District of
Columbia-Southern Maryland). I moved here with my wife, Mandy (also
an alum) at the first of the year. Now that we are settled, I am very
interested in organizing fellow alumni into a nationally-recognized
alumni association of Alpha Phi Omega. I ask for your help in making
this idea a reality.
The process for starting an alumni association serves not only as the
means of achieving official recognition from the National Fraternity,
but also give us a chance to plan out the scope with which we want the
association, and its members, to serve the Fraternity, its chapters
and actives, and the local community. To facilitate the
organizational process, I wish to hold a meeting where we would
dispense of initial organizing requirements, elect a "provisional"
slate of officers who would govern the organization during its first
couple of months, and develop plans for hosting alumni activities,
recruit members, and establish relationships with community
organizations and area active chapters and extension efforts.
As an active alum, your help is desperately needed. I have no idea
about the history of past alumni organizations around here, but I know
that the National Capital Area is home to a large concentration of
alumni. Upon arriving here, I communicated with our Filipino brethren
who reside here and found that they possessed a strong and thriving
alumni association, encompassing activities that involved all three of
our cardinal principles. I know that we can do the same with our
Alumni Brothers from Chapters here in the United States, coming
together to provide needed community service, aide active chapters,
improve personal leadership skills, and develop stronger bonds of
friendship and brotherhood.
A specific date for our organizational meeting will be announced upon
completion of a poll, which you can participate in online at
http://www.misterpoll.com/949369748.html.
The meeting will be on either a Saturday or Sunday in August or early
September. If you have any questions or comments, or if you wish to
announce your interest, give me a call at (703) 367-8771, or email me
at kwhunter@gmail.com.
Thank you very much for reading this message, and I look forward to
seeing you take part in this exciting opportunity.
In Leadership, Friendship, and Service,
Kenneth Hunter
