I also transferred my membership from one chapter to
another. I pledged in the Spring of 1992 (Theta Pledge
Class), Alpha Beta Omega Chapter (Old Dominion
University). I was active there until I graduated in
the Spring of 1995. Actually didn't get quite as
involved here as much; I was more active at ODU in the
SGA. Although I did serve as Interchapter Liaison and
Chapter Treasurer.

I transferred my membership to Alpha Delta Iota
Chapter at Virginia Commonwealth University when I
started graduate school at the MCV campus, Fall 1998
(officially transferred Fall 1999, mainly because they
hadn't had any transfer brothers before, so they
didn't know what paperwork was required to do that and
such).

I was a bit more active at VCU than I was at ODU.
Active from 1998 until I graduated December, 2003. I
served as Alumni/Corresponding Secretary for a
semester, as well as Chapter Treasurer and Webmaster
for 3 years.

Overall, I found it fairly easy to integrate into a
new chapter. VCU and ODU are very similar schools;
fairly large campus (20,000 students), mainly commuter
campus. Brothers at VCU accepted me as a brother. They
gave me the option to re-pledge if I wanted, or to
simply transfer my membership (after a brief
orientation period). So I opted to transfer. Although
I did not pledge, I was still involved with the
pledging process; interviewed all of the new brothers,
talked to advisors and alumni, etc. I was also the
Spring 2004 Pledge Class Namesake as well, so I did
actually become a part of a pledge class, in a
sense,...

Since I was a graduate student, I also became involved
in the sectional and regional volunteer staff; mainly
as the webmaster for www.apo83.org and www.apor3.org.
I continue to be involved on staff, now serving on the
National Media & Technology Committee and the
Leadership Development Committee.

I think overall, I got a very strong sense of
brotherhood in ADI chapter, and I will miss my time
being active with them.

Of course, this thread comes at an interesting time
for me. I just moved to Louisville, KY, for a
post-doctoral position at the James Graham Brown
Cancer Center at the University of Louisville.
Wouldn't you know it - UofL has a chapter here, too
(Delta Theta),... Although it's the summertime, so I
haven't heard of meetings yet, but I'll probably stop
by and say hi sometime - I have made contacts with
some of the folks on the Louisville 2006 National
Convention Bid Committee, however. Plus, I will
continue my involvement with M&T and LD. But of
course, "transferring" doesn't really apply since I am
not a student any more.

Cheers!
