Hello my fellow members,
I joined Alpha Phi Omega in the Fall of 77 to an all male chapter. My =
chapter choose to go co-ed in my senior year. So I feel I somewhat know =
both sides of the issue.
I have heard the debate on this matter ever since attending my first =
national convention in 1984 in Washington. The points that were given =
back then are pretty much the same points as today.
The toast song is a tradition of our fraternity. It is part of our =
history. But let me point out, that it has developed thru the years. =
Also when a tradition turns to be a negative then that tradition need to =
be seriously looked at. The last national convention directed that a =
committee be formed to look at this matter and submit a report of its =
findings.
If the active members of this fraternity so choose to change this song, =
or submit a totally different song, and that motion is approved at =
nationals, I would of course support it.
If the active members of this fraternity so choose to make no changes, I =
again support the decision of the active members.
Having seen people who have been hurt and those who have left APO =
because of this issue, is the most painful of all. We all joined to help =
our fellow men and women. Please do not let the emotions of the moment, =
hurt the members of the future. We are some of the greatest young men =
and women in the world, we can and we will come up with a solution to =
this issue.
Yours in Leadership, Friendship, Service,
Bill Kuhfal
