Here's my .25¢ on the issue... We all joined a fraternity. Our beloved founders started the fraternity for men. Out of respect for the fraternity, I prefer to be called a brother, as a matter of fact, I demand it, and I find it disrespectful to be called a sister. I realize that some women in the fraternity do prefer to be called a sister; however, you do have some females who prefer to be called brothers. Being a brother does not equate to being called a male. If you go to www.dictionary.com and look up the word brother you will see a few definitions that fit us...
1. One who shares a common ancestry, allegiance, character, or purpose with another or others, especially:
A kinsman.
A fellow man.
A fellow member, as of a fraternity, trade union, or panel of judges on a court.
2. One related or closely united to another by some common tie or interest, as of rank, profession, membership in a society, toil, suffering, etc.; -- used among judges, clergymen, monks, physicians, lawyers, professors of religion, etc. ``A brother of your order.'' --Shak.
3. One who, or that which, resembles another in distinctive qualities or traits of character. For us that would be being trustworthy, loyal, etc...
I don't feel the need to change the toast song. We all knew we were joining a fraternity.
