hi paper estimators,

here is my rule of thumb about how much extra paper you need to have
for a job (i believe this was talked about recently here)

10% of the number to be delivered or fifty (50),
   whichever is higher

you need extra copies for two reasons:

1. misfeeds during the run, due to missing one or more of the guage
   pins

with light stock, or large stock, or stock you haven't printed with
before, or you're having a bad day, i've seen the misfeeds go this
   high

2. make ready (aka set-up) when you are:

   * getting the amount/thickness of bedding correct
   * getting the guage pins in the right place
   * proofreading the job

if we have scrap pieces of the stock you are using,
you can do most the make ready with it

you can cut paper to the size of stock, where we don't have scrap
copies, and used that for positioning, and maybe for proofing

if we don't have scrap, and the paper is unusual, i've seen a job
need close to 50 set-up copies
