i agree with mitch and ellen with these caveats:
* this discussion applies only to qualified press operators
if someone else AX, or non-AX wants to borrow stuff,
we should discuss it first
* unique items can't be borrowed, e.g.
** the planers used to level the type
** the bristle haired brush used for cleaning the type
* the oldest of non-unique items should be borrowed, e.g.
** the older push-push solvent dispenser (in the squarish
container),
which is generally under the newer one (in the round container)
* if the press shop manager can't be found for approval, any
journeyman can grant approval
* email should be sent to apo-printshop@mit.edu when anything is
borrowed, and when it's returned
borrowed items should also be signed out and in in the log in the
looseleaf binder by the door

I basically agree with what Mitch said, but with the additional
restriction that there needs to be some active reason why the work
couldn't be done in our shop. While people intend to return things
promptly, the best of intentions don't always work out and
borrowing from the shop should be a last resort, not the first
though on how to get the job done.
