Hi Bookex, SVP, and Printshop,
As I was editing the Bookex Chairs guide to be up to date for the
coming term, I noticed that it said some things about Reg day Cards.
In particular, it implied that the Bookex Chair would receive said
cards from the Registar's Office, and then was responsible for giving
the cards, along with the dates for Bookex, to the printshop, and
requesting the job be done. I have never received any cards as Bookex
Chair, and it seems odd that the Bookex Chair is supposed to do this.
It also said in the old chairs guide that the Bookex Chair was
responsible for distributing the Reg Day Cards to the Reg Day Chair.
This also seems strange, considering that Reg Day is not a
sub-activity of Bookex, nor does the Bookex chair (or so it seems)
have control or pants with respect to the cards.
I have also seen other problems with organization regarding Reg Day
Cards as SVP. At the beginning of last term I was told that I was
supposed to submit the dates and times of the open projects for the
reg day cards, but I didn't hear about this until very late, so time
became really tight and it was stressful for everyone. After sending
in the dates for open projects a piece at a time as I scheduled them,
I was again yelled at because apparently I had also been expected to
create the layout for the entire card, including dates for Book
Exchange and open meetings, and I hadn't known that the SVP was
expected to make a layout either (and indeed I received conflicting
information from Len and Mitch regarding whether I was responsible for
layout, or just the dates of open projects).
I also noticed last Reg Day that there was trouble with finding the
new reg day cards that had recently been printed -- when I arrived to
do my shift at Reg Day, they were handing out an assortment of cards
from previous years, apparently without noticing (?) and then some of
us talked to Milo and some other people went looking to the office and
the correct cards were eventually found, but a lot of incorrect ones
were distributed.
All of this is to say, I am noticing that nobody really seems to be in
charge of making things happen right when it comes to Reg Day cards.
The only place where there is a written record of someone being in
charge of it was when the Bookex Chair was the leader, which I think
is the least intuitive of the 4 possibilities -- Bookex Chair, SVP,
Printshop Chair, and Reg Day PC -- since most of the info on the card
is unrelated to Bookex. That being said, I think any of the 4 people
could have it fall under their jurisdiction, but we just need to
decide who and make sure it gets passed down properly.
What are people's thoughts?
Yilfs,
Brown
