I looked through the archive and could not find these questions
answered there. If they have already been answered, a pointer would be
appreciated.
1. The Char data type in JAVA is 16 bits (Unicode). Strings are
separate objects. Are strings made up of 16 bit or 8 bit characters.
If 16 bit is there anyway to deal with traditional 8 bit strings?
2. How does JAVA deal with input from files, from data bases.
3. How does JAVA obtain user input?
4. There is mention of a windows class in JAVA, but no description.
Preswumably input is obtained through the windows class. Where is
the windows class described?
5. Is there anybody working on a VMS version of JAVA?
6. Can JAVA applets be included in the form input fields for
validating input or responding to input?
7. There are no primitives for processing strings except for
concatinating them. Will there be methods for doing the usual string
processing operation (Eg case shifts, finding the first or last N
characters, etc)
