For $3500 a student can get a NeXT, and we've got most of the Athena
base software (and SIPB locker) ported. (Courseware is a different
issue.)
As for lockers - Kerberos authentication from an IBM PC and
PC-NFS have been available for at least 3 years. It's the connectivity
that's the problem. (There was PC Kerberos code in the first public
release of kerberos! and there is a more recent release on athena-dist
right now, along with a Mac release.) There's also an apple-share/NFS
gateway running on Campus somewhere.
