Chapter Weekend One is almost upon us!!

Hi,
This is the longer note I promised giving more details about
chapter weekend. Short summary:
1) Service this time includes trail work, fixing water supply pumps,
replacing old boards on picnic tables, and many other possibilities.
2) The dinner that Barbara Manganis is having Friday evening is to
celebrate her marriage that Sunday: because the rehearsal dinner is
Saturday, her only option for a celebratory dinner for the chapter
(before her wedding, at least) is Friday. Any and all APO brothers,
pledges, mold, advisors, friends, etc are welcome; please come and
wish her well.
Background, for new pledges and friends of the chapter: Alpha Chi
chapter of APO usually has three chapter weekend retreats during each
term. We usually go to local Boy or Girl Scout camps that have
facilities for groups like us; i.e., mattresses, bathrooms, and a
kitchen for meals. They are nominally start Friday evening (usually
7pm-ish) for a somewhat late dinner, and run through to Sunday after
cleaning up from breakfast. All day Saturday we do "chores" around
the camp, working on anything the camp ranger needs getting done that
is easier to do with groups of people.
This coming weekend: Camp Nobscot is ...not too far from here, I may
have even been there but don't remember exactly how we got there. It
is a Boy Scouts of America reservation (runs weeklong summer camp
sessions and other large or small events throughout the rest of the
year), and Ranger Bob is the guy in charge. We'll be fixing any (or
all!) of a variety of wear-and-tear around the camp. Possibilities
include this time:
1) Trail work: maintain the circuit around the camp, or blaze a new
historic trail
2) Fixing up furniture: some of the picnic tables/benches need boards
replaced, or otherwise shored up
3) Fixing the camp water distribution: four pumps are apparently not
working, and small crews will have to haul them and some of
their piping out of the ground and replace parts. Bob's Tip
Of The Day: do NOT drop your wrench down the shaft...
4) I wrote down a whole lot more, but he called when I wasn't
expecting and the scrapwood I wrote it on is in my office
Also of note, this chapter weekend only, is the special dinner that
Barbara Manganis, a mold (our chapter word that means "alum"), will be
organizing: spaghetti and garlic bread, Friday evening. She is
getting married Sunday, and wanted to do a celebration with the
chapter beforehand, and since her rehearsal dinner is Saturday-- She
may also stick around for some of Saturday service. So, I'll get this
out of my system now: a couple delicate haiku I wrote (as a JOKE; a
close friend somehow thought I was serious with these) when another
friend was getting married.
From love and friendship
They form a bond very strong
Called the ball and chain.
All love and smiles,
They were blissfully happy.
But now that is gone.
And besides a possible eulogy by any friends, I'll leave the morbid
"getting married" humor aside. (BTW, if anyone needs any irreverent
limericks or haiku on a moment's notice, I can usually churn them
right out.)
