batlh choja', Robert Baruch quv:

[Stuff on copyright status of Hol'a' deleted]

I'm sure someone's going to bring up the protracted legal battle between
the Loglanists and the Lojbanists, which has only recently been resolved.
I'm just as sure it's not going to be me. ;) There might be a file about
it in the Lojban ftp site --- I'll check.

The brief (Lojban-biased, and I know that there are Loglanists here) story
is that there were leadership struggles in the language; then LeChevalier
published a word list; Cooke Brown, inventor of the language, made legal
rumblings about his copyright; LeChevalier and those associated with him
finally had enough, and used a new vocabulary, calling their language
Lojban; and the legal battles were over whether Lojban could call itself
Loglan. (It was ruled that Loglan was a generic name, so yes.)

Not immediately pertinent to Hol'a', but I suspect Paramount/Pocket Books
don't want an unauthorised word list to be published any time soon...
