Why not focus on what there *is* in Klingon=2C rather than what there isn't=
? It's best to work with the language=2C send emails to the list=2C reach o=
ut and communicate with members of the community individually=2C Skype with=
Klingonists at all levels (my Skype handle is theriddermark=2C if you shou=
ld want to add me)... the list of possibilities is huge. If you get the cha=
nce to come to next year's qep'a'=2C or to the Saarbr=FCcken qepHom=2C you'=
ll see Klingon in full flight and realise that even without these things yo=
u make note of=2C Klingon still works as a language. Yes=2C there are gramm=
atical and lexical gaps with Klingon and logistical issues for the Klingon =
community=2C but as you spend more time here=2C you'll learn more about wha=
t these gaps and issues are=2C how you can overcome them with the tools we'=
ve already got=2C how other speakers have overcome the same hurdles you hav=
e (this is hugely important)=2C and also get some idea of what the Klingon =
community *is* doing=2C what we're working on with respect to the language=
=2C and so forth.
It's true that we still only have five major works published=2C and that is=
a fair sort of hurdle as none of those is a teaching textbook. But the fiv=
e texts cover a good range of difficulty=2C and all five are bilingual (i.e=
. the English is on the opposing page)=2C so they're good self-teaching aid=
s if you can get hold of them. Also=2C there are several other major works =
in the pipeline=2C both prose and poetry=2C and many more scattered across =
the Internet. The old articles from Qo'noS QonoS (The Kronos Chronicle=2C a=
Klingon-only newsletter that was done for a few years) can be found here:

This is really problematic=2C unfortunately. Who gets to decide what's nece=
ssary in terms of vocabulary and grammar? Who decides who gets to decide in=
the first place? What methods do we use to decide on the new word or gramm=
ar feature? What happens if there are serious divisions of opinion? Such a =
thing has happened before in the Klingon community=2C and we're not so big =
that we can afford a schism like the one that occurred between Esperanto on=
the one hand=2C and Ido and the numerous neo-Esperantos on the other. Ulti=
mately=2C the KLI has chosen to avoid those kinds of arguments by agreeing =
to work under a sort of benevolent dictatorship=2C having Marc Okrand as ou=
r sole provider of new canon. Luckily for us=2C Marc's been very benevolent=
=2C and for now he's still going strong (touch wood).
