Subject: [Tlhingan-hol] Child-related vocabulary

=20

Does anyone (D'Armond?) have a compendium of child-related vocabulary, =
perhaps with some work-arounds for specific baby terminology?

=20

I know there are at lest a few of us on the list who are newly arrived =
at parenthood, and it would be nice to benefit from the wisdom of those =
who have gone before.

=20

It might even be nice to make a section of the website about using =
Klingon with children, to include key vocabulary, some kid-friendly =
songs (I have a lullaby to start that section off), and some stories. =
It would be particularly nice to make a few Klingon-language picture =
books (I have most of the text of one worked out, though I would require =
the assistance of someone with an artistic bent if I want to finish that =
project). If we actually published a Klingon picture book, it would =
double as both a resource for beginners and a coffee-table curiosity for =
nonspeakers, so I think its probably worthwhile.

=20

I will start by listing all the baby-related vocab I can think of off =
the top of my head:

=20

=20

Completely canonical vocab:

ghu - baby

SoS - mother

SoSoy - mommy

vav - father

vavoy - daddy

puqloD - son

puqbe' - daughter

(All other family relationship terms also)

paq - book

nIm - milk

ghung - be hungry

Say' - be clean

lam - be dirty

QaD - be dry

bol - drool

bom - sing/song

rop - be ill/sick

Hagh - laugh

ghoj - learn

parHa' - like

par - dislike

Quch - be happy

chuS - be noisy

tam - be quiet

(body parts)

(clothing)

reH - play

Quj - play a game

=20

attempts at glossing baby specific terms:

Crib - ghu QongDaq (baby bed) or mo' QongDaq (cage bed)

bottle - ghu Hivje' (baby drinking glass - sippy cup also?) or nIm =
ngaSwI' (milk container)

Diaper - ghu yopwaH (baby pants) or puch yopwaH (toilet pants)

toy - reHvaD Doch (item for playing)

stuffed animal - Sajqoq tun (soft fake pet)

=20

I would particularly appreciate feedback on the attempted glosses, =
especially other suggested translations, and terms people have used for =
these or other baby items/activities. (also please let me know if there =
is a canon term for something I've tried to gloss).
