Hi Ronnie,
in your post, there's a missing "/"
# /etc/rc.d/init.d/httpd (you can choose stop <wait for it to stop>, then
start .. or restart)
If you use stop/start, you'll see the notice telling you that httpd has
stopped or started.
you can then do a # ps auxwww | grep httpd to see the root and <user> httpd
processes.
