I ran into this on a standalone system without DNS entries or a Host Table
If you wait long enough, the login prompt will appear. It's trying to
reverse lookup your host.

Two possible solutions:
1.) Put your 95 machine into the Hosts File
2.) Enable a DNS server someplace

Subject: Problems with Telnet RH5.1

I just got RH 5.1 up and running, but I'm having problems telnetting to my
Linux box.

I only get the welcome message when telnetting to the box from Win95. I do
not
get the login prompt...

>Red Hat Linux release 5.1 (Manhattan)
>Kernel 2.0.34 on an i486

is all I get. I had slackware linux at one time and had no problem
telnetting
with Win95.

I have problems with ANY telnet client from Win95. From the Linux box, I can
telnet both "localhost" and the direct IP address successfully. What am I
not
seeing?

Thanks
