I have this working ok.

I think you might should make sure that you are mounting _only_ as root. 
Otherwise you will need to make the NFS server's export list include something 
with the no_root_squash option. like: 

/home	123.123.123.4(wr,no_root_squash)

then /etc/rc.d/init.d/nfs restart

...as this might be a root problem. Can you become a user and write? (I do 
assume you are ALLOWing write in the exports file on the NFS server.)
