Andre,
For X, display 0 is on virtual terminal 7, not 1. So, when you invoke
'startx' from console 1, you're switched to console 7. Using ctrl-alt-F1
puts you back to the console from which you started X.
Use ctrl-alt-F7 to get back to your X session.
Neither root nor any other user (logged on virtual consoles 2 through 6)
can start another X session. However, by passing startx some parameters, you
can have another one or two X sessions going (either for you or another
user.) See the latest issue of the "Linux Journal" for details.
