My company would like to start playing with Oracle as a possible
alternative to our current FoxPro system, but we're having a little
trouble getting started.

We have a programmer (not me) who understands SQL, and a sysadmin (me)
who understands Linux, SysV, and networking. We have the demo version
of Oracle8 for Linux installed, but the installation docs leave off
right before the addition of the first user. The Oracle web site is
useless of course, and e-mail to "our" Oracle rep goes unanswered except
for ads for more software that we wouldn't know how to use.

So what we really need right now is just a pointer to the really simple,
"HOWTO"-level stuff. Even a tip on which book to buy would be great.
Any hints?

Thanks as always,
m
