It sounds like you need to update lilo.
as root:
1) make an entry in /etc/lilo.conf for the new kernel. Kernel images are in
/boot. The entry should be something like:
image=/boot/vmlinuz-2.0.35-2
label=linux_no_apm
root=/dev/hda5
read-only
*make sure you leave the old kernel entry*
2) run lilo
3) reboot
You should have the new kernel now.
