If you promise not to laugh, I'll admit I still use a 486. I have a video
board capable of going up to 1024x800 (or whatever that resolution is) and
a monitor that can go to 800x600. I'll also admit I run Win95 and run it
under 800x600. However, when I run Xconfigurator and set myself up as
800x600, I get that cursed blinking screen when I try start X windows. I
have to settle for the next lower resolution which just plain stinks!

I have a Cirrus Logic board and I have tried both generic VGA monitor and
custom monitor (I do have the specs on my monitor to do this). It's an
AT&T monitor.

Any ideas on how I can convince Linux to run under a better resolution? I
*DO* have the proper XFree86 files. Also, any ideas how to make those
icons in the control panel smaller? Airline pilots can see them they're
so large.

If anyone knows any sources for cheap motherboards (I'd settle for a low
end Pentium or AMD 586) please let me know. I'm going to pick up a
Computer Shopper when I buy the next issue of Linux Journal.
