PPP troubles

I have looked at the FAQs and through the archives as much as I can, but haven't been able to find the answer to my problem
I have set up PPP and it dials OK and connects OK and continues to think it is running. The remote end disconnects as soon as I get logged in with an error of "Shell access is not allowed".
Any ideas what I need to do on my end to fix this?
