I assume you're not trying to telnet in as root. Red Hat boxes disable that
by default. telnet in as a regular user instead.
If youy're using PPP, you'll have to verify the IP address of your machine.
One easy way to verify your IP after you connect is by running 'ifconfig
ppp0'.
