Just two days ago (literally) I bought a ATI XPERT 98. At the time I
couldn't be 100% sure that it would work with XFree86 since I found no
reference to the 3d rage _pro_ chipset.
I'm using XFree86-3.3.1-14 from the Redhat Errata pages, and the only
problem I've had with it so far is that when running in 1200x1024 in 32bpp
colour mode I was getting some snow on the screen until I upped the
frequency capability of my monitor.
Using Metro-X (from Redhat 5.0) it worked without a problem.
Some things that I found less than perfect are:
1) it didn't detect the video RAM automatically
2) it failed one of the clock probes
3) when I exit X, I get the error message:
=FF=FF=FF=FF
waiting for X server to shut down mach64ProgramClkMach64CT: Warning: Q <
10.66666667
If you'd like a copy of my XF86Config file, let me know and I'll send it
to you off-list.
