Well, to be precise, you can have 4 primary partition (contrary to what some
"so-called" operating systems may have led you to believe), you can however
only have one marked active at a time. I know, I know, that's not really
true either, but if you have more that 1 marked active, and 1 is Windows,
only Linux will boot correctly (maybe that's a "feature" ;) ).
In a "normal setup", 1 partition is marked active, and 1 *may* be marked
extended. That extended partition may contain several logical partitions,
giving you, effectively, more that 4 partitions.
