If it's that regular, run "tcpdump -i eth0" for 15 minutes or so, and
see what kind of traffic is being generated.  It might be easier if
you use netcfg to open the dial-up connection, and run "tcpdump -i
ppp0" so that local stuff doesn't show up.  Try em both
