This is a common problem from my reading of the archives thru deja news.
However, I have not found a solution yet. This problem has been with me
since I first installed.
The most annoying thing about receiving the message
lp: Driver configured but no interfaces found.
is that I HAD THE PRINTER PRINTING AT ONE POINT because the system
found the parallel port.
I have tried the following (all have been suggested in various newsgroups!):
use a bidirectional cable
don't use a bidirectional cable
have printer on at boot
have printer off at boot
boot linux after booting windows 95
"tunelp /dev/lp1" nets me "/dev/lp1: Device not configured"
use append = "lp=0x378,7" in lilo.conf (and run /sbin/lilo)
(cat /proc/interrupts DOES NOT list my port after this)
"insmod /lib/modules/2.0.31/misc/lp.o" (I get
/lib/modules/2.0.31/misc/lp.o: a module named lp already exists)
"cat /proc/devices" lists lp as a device
"cat /proc/ioports" doesn't list anything that has 'lp' in its name.
Since it _was_ working, I assume I compiled the kernel with parallel
port support.
I need MORE help than what I've found so far. No - I don't know what magic
made it work the first time, nor what I did since then to make it stop working.
