Hmmm. Try making out a Windows 95 floppy. Go to a windows 95
machine, START, PROGRAMS, MSDOS Prompt.
Insert a blank floppy in there.
C:\WINDOWS> format a: /s /u
after it done formatting, check it out:
C:\WINDOWS> dir
it should show one file only: COMMAND.COM
Now take that floppy to your machine in question, and put it
into the drive and boot to it. You should end up with an
A:\>
prompt, perhaps just A: or A:>
Now type something. Just type it to the command prompt. If
it types okay, then your keyboard is okay and you need a Linux
Medic. If it gives errors, then you have a hardware problem.
I suggest you REMOVE the existing hard drive with your Linux,
put in a cheapo 150 MB or larger drive in there, and install
a minimal Win 95 on it. Then give it to the repair department.
Reverse the process when you get it back and instant Linux box.
That assumes that the repair is a real repair and does not
consist of replacing the computer or the motherboard. If they
do that, your Linux may or may not work correctly.
