It's this attitude that sets the professional system managers apart from
the amateurs. A good system manager *never* installs brand-new software,
no matter what claims are made by the vendor. A good system manager
waits until others have tried the product out and exposed the problems.
A good system manager tries to avoid exposing his users to problems
until he's aware of the problems they're going to have.
I was (and still am!) very excited when Red Hat released 4.0, but there
was no way I was going to move my 800 users to 4.0 before I got a good
feel for the problems it had. I've since decided that we'll stick with
3.0.3 at least until the next release of Red Hat Linux comes out, or until
4.0 stablizes if no further release is expected within the near future.
