You can use other X appications with WABI. I select the "options -
minimize on use" option that iconifies the the program manager by
default. The office button bar sticks to the top in the upper right
corner of the screen, out of the way. I use it to access all of the
applications. When I need to run a linux app, I iconify the windoz
application and continue. I would like to make the icons invisible and
select them from a the list, but haven't accomplished that yet.
The applications run quite fast. And the equation editor works, the
link to lpr works, bookshelf can even find its data in my scsi cdrom.
You can cut text from linux windows using the mouse (for me usually
Matlab) and enter them into Excel using Excel's paste command (^v).
The only complaints I have are the sticky windows and having to run the
old versions of Word (V6) and Excel (V5). The sticky problem becomes
minor with icons and window resizing. The behind one rev problem only
occurs when the publishing staff gives me a document. I have to request
it be saved in the old V5 format.
