Not better, but for some users it might be just easier to save/restore 
such setup; e.g. if a group of users in a LAN with Novell Netware
have DOS on disks; they can just share a UMSDOS tree compressed with zip
on a network Netware server rather than keeping a separate rescue 
partition on each local disk.
 If something bad happens to anyone's Linux, he/she could copy rescue 
UMSDOS tree to the DOS partition, and start Linux from there to correct
things.
