I, for one, have a small umsdos system, left over from my Slackware
days, installed on a second hard disk. I still use it now and then to hold
backups of critical files. On one occasion, I had to boot from it in order
to repair my RH4 filesystem, so a umsdos system definitely can be used
for rescue purposes. Still, I'm not sure that it's really better than
a second native Linux system would be.
