Folks,
Due to a SCSI disk crash, I recently had the opportunity to upgrade
from a Feb 96 version of Slackware to RedHat V4.0. I purchased my machine
pre-installed from VA Research, and got the RedHat from them as well when I
returned my disk under warrenty. Unfortunately, I am unable to get my PPP link
back up since installing RedHat.
I use dynamic IP's, with the provider issuing both host and local IP
addresses. Under the Slackware version (1.2.13 kernel), the link came up with
the local IP correct, but with 1.1.1.1 as the remote host. I had a correction
shell script which used an ifconfig command to set the proper host IP (what was
provided when I manually set the link up), two route commands to delete the
bogus links, and two route commands to set up the new host and default routes.
Things worked after than.
Now, I still get 1.1.1.1 as the remote host, and can change it via
ifconfig. I can delete the bogus links, but when I attempt to add the host IP
address via:
route add -host xx.yy.zz.aa
the route command hangs up. I know the link's partially there, since I can
ping the host and get packets back. I can't get the default link in, nor get
name serving from the host. When I kill the terminal/modem session (kill -15),
the rest of the route command prints.
Therefore, I'm stuck - I also can't seem to get /etc/ppp/ip-up to fire
off when pppd starts... Ideas and pointers are welcome!
