If the kernel on the install CD/disk doesn't support that card, a
reinstall isn't going to help. You'll have to recompile your
kernel for that support. Sound card support is pretty simple, so
Ensoniq should be supported. It's possible that advanced features of
the card may not be though. (I just have an old Soundblaster Pro that
linux likes, but of course, I had to compile the kerenl to include
support for it).

If it's a parallel port back up drive, it probably won't be supported,
as Linux itself doesn't support them yet. Some floppy-tape and IDE
tape systems are supported by Linux, but then again you have to
recompile the kernel. It's (at least to me) not really RedHat's
responsibility to provide kernels that support every conceivable
hardware feature. You'd either end up with a kernel that did every-
thing (and probably conflicted with itself) or you'd end up with
all those extra kernel images taking up space on the CD (which Red
Hat did in previous versions, and that extra space could and should
have been consumed more effectively.)

Again, most monitors should be supported. Are you using Xconfigurator
or MetroX? X configuration can be daunting, and often a particular
brand of monitor isn't going to be available. For example, I doubt
anyone's heard of a Sampo 15gx. But it works with RedHat, although
I use Accelerated X. I just have to try and experiment with monitors
that are closest to what the spacs for this monitor are.
And of course you should be using MetroX for the MatroX. It's not
supported to my knowledge in XFree, and it may or may not be
supported in MetroX. I know it is unsupported by AccelX. (RH people,
you should have contracted with the AccelX folks: I for one think
it's better).

Good question - I don't know the answer to this one. I would probably
update RPM first, and then unRPM the others as you get them. I am unsure
of any conflicting dependencies (say if a rpm that's fifth on your
list requires something that's found in the rpm that you are trying
to update/install).

No, but it's generally a very good idea that you do so. Read my
coments above on the subject. Also, it's better to only include
support for things you actually have, since it gives you more
memory to work with and potentially a somewhat faster system.
