uninstalling source RPMs

I had several source RPMs installed, and wanted to remove them. I went
looking to see if they were in the database kept by RPM, but didn't find
them. I just wanted to verify that source RPMs (SRPMS) are treated
differently than binary ones.
Can someone verify this? Is it safe to just blow away the tar files which
the SRPM created? Will new ones show up on the next upgrade?
