That's fine - unless the machine is (potentiallY) accessible from the
Internet - or might otherwise be subjected to denial of service
attacks. As /tmp is used by a number of programs (eg editors, mua's
etc) at the user permission level, it is possible to bring a machine
to its knees without having root priveleges by scribbling on /tmp if
it is on the root file system.
For server, I always have separate /, /tmp, /var/spool/mail, /home so
that such attacks will not bring the machine to its knees.
