Make sure HOSTNAME is a fqdn. Just a host without the domain will
cause sendmail to delay for a minute when starting.
Normal startup is mode 3. It executes the scripts in
"/etc/rc.d/rc3.d". There you'll find a symlink to
"../init.d/sendmail".
Convention for above symlinks is:
Starts with S = startup script
Starts with K = kill script
