Ok, I hope redhat is listening too -----

Has anyone ever looked at performance issues of say a pentium
pro/200mhz vs a
sparc running solaris?

Specifically what I am looking at is network performance for using a
linux system
as a proxy or firewall-type host. I know of the 2.5.1 patch sun has
released (unsupported)
that should "improve performance on tcp/ip" but, based on their
history, I am really
trying to get some good numbers. I am thiking of PCI based ethernet
cards in a pentium
pro could easily outperform everything but a full blown ultra-2 with a
gig of memory???

Comments??
