You may have too little memory and/or swap for all those applications to
run.
Start checking your available free and swap memory with 'free' or
'top'. If if looks like your memory or swap is starting to fill up, you
may have to
a. get more RAM (cheap these days)
b. increase your swap space
c. Try a newer kernel (with appropriate updates) which might manage
these things much better.
