Try it. Try typing which ppp-off If it is not found, then proceed as follows. Type ps | grep pppd You will see two lines with numbers on the left. The one which does *not* contain grep is the status line of your pppd daemon. To stop the daemon, if the number is, say 119, type kill -TERM 119. If this starts up at boot time and you don't want that to happen, use control-panel and change the appropriate item.
