Hi,
Could anyone please help me on how to solve this irq conflict
problem?
My linux box gives me "SIOIFFLAG: Try Again" message after probing
for ethernet card (3Com590). Checking /proc/interrupts and
HOWTOs
reveals that my SCSI (adaptec2940) uses the same interrupt (irq 9)
as ethernet card (as seen using "dmesg").
My PC's BIOS does not have any setting allows me change irqs for
devices. Windows95 control panel says "can not change irq" from
win95 neither.
Any help is appreciated.
I have the same setup. It took me some time to get it to work, but here
is how I did it. After this procedure I have had no problems whatsoever.
I should mention that I have a Gateway 2000 P5-133 with Intel
motherboard, Triton Chipset.
1. The linux kernel seems to set the SCSI IRQ first, and it kept
trying to give it IRQ 10. Then the ethernet insisted on IRQ
10 as well.
2. Using the setup command Press F1 while booting, you can change some of
your IRQ's which may or may not be available. You will probably find
that IRQ 3 or 4 are used by your serial ports. You can change
those settings and make IRQ 3 available. Also allow IRQ 10 to be
available. When I did this, my Adaptec 2040 found IRQ, my 3com590 got
IRQ 10 and everything worked.
3. Now, I even have two ethernet cards, the 3COM590 at IRQ 11, and an
NE2000 ISA clone at IRQ 9. Of course, the Adaptec 2940 still works
very well in this system.
4. As an aside, you probably have the option to force another IRQ for the
3com using Windows 95 by setting jumpers on the board.
