i know this isn't exactly the optimal place to ask this question, but it's
my best connection the the linux world...
i have a PPro/200 with a BusLogic BT-958 SCSI host adapter and a Seagate
Baracuda drive, on which happily lives RH 4.0 w/updates. i attempted to
hang an Iomega Jaz drive off the external SCSI port via a 68-pin to 50-pin
cable, and this caused the system to hang during boot. it only gets
partway into the ROM-level initialization of the BT-958; it prints the
BIOS banner, then hangs before it gives its AutoSCSI instructions/prompt.
SCSI ID's: 'cuda: 0
BT-958: 7
Jaz: 4,6,1 (all give same result)
i have tried all three termination settings on the Jaz, and both ports.
i don't have an external terminator, so i haven't tried that. the Jaz
works well on our DEC Alpha (DU v3.2).
the tech guy at BusLogic thought it was a termination problem.
Iomega now charges $20 per question, so i didn't ask them. (btw, am i the
only one who thinks that iomega is a bunch of boobs? their pre-canned
support documents dont even use the terms 'host adapter' and 'driver'
consistently...)
please, help this tired soul...
