Here's one thing to keep in mind.. if you have the facilities, why dont 
you use ssh for forwarding xclients (eg exmh, every SA's friend) to your 
home machine? This way, you can keep your mail in all the folders on the 
remote host, and also you keep your mail in an encrypted channel onto your 
home machine.  This also is handy, since ssh does copmression (yes, so 
does PPP, but it does help..)
