You can use the following set of commands to play
with hostnames:
[vlad@borg vlad]$ hostname
borg.assimilator.net
[vlad@borg vlad]$ hostname blah.blah.blah
hostname: you must be root to change the host name
[vlad@borg vlad]$ su
Password:
[root@borg vlad]# hostname aaa.bbb.ddd
[root@borg vlad]# hostname
aaa.bbb.ddd
[root@borg vlad]# hostname borg.assimilator.net
[root@borg vlad]# domainname
borg.assimilator.net
[root@borg vlad]# dnsdomainname
assimilator.net
[root@borg vlad]#
