This is an important point. Since FIPS was invented in the DOS world, it
naturally knows nothing about linux. And that is as it should be.
During the Redhat installation process, you will be given a chance to run
linux fdisk. You must change the partition type of the newly created
partition(s) to linux native.

Actually, you will probably want to *delete* the newly created partition
and create multiple linux native and linux swap partitions in it's place.
Just remember that you can only have four primary partitions (an inherent
limitation of (E)IDE). So if you want/need more than two linux native
partitions, a linux swap partition, and Win95 partition, you will need to
"sacrifice" one primary partition to create multiple extended partitions.
There's a reasonable discussion of this in Matt Welsh's excellent "Linux
Installation and Getting Started Guide" in the Linux Documentation Project
at sunsite and its mirrors.
