The title of this message says it all. I some how managed to fubar my
new and old copies of vmlinuz. Well no worries b/c there wasnt anything
that I didnt need to worry about loseing. Just reinstall and try again.
However I am having a few problems now...
1) The cdrom... I cant seem to find the correct device so that I can do
a soft link to /dev/cdrom. I am using a Warrens 6x cdrom, its an IDE
cdrom from Gateway computers. It sits on the secondary IDE chain in
the seconrady position. ie.. Primary IDE are hda. hdb- Secondary IDE
is hdc and CDROM. Now I assumed that the cdrom should be hdd but
it dosnt seem to be. Now I know linux can read my cdrom b/c that is
what I installed off of.
2) When trying to make a new kernel and add the 586 support from the
386, I get a lot of Warrrning messages about pointers and stuff not being
used. Should I be alarmed at this?
This is the process that I used to make a new kernel..
cd /usr/src/linux
make mrproper
make menuconfig
make dep ; make clean
make zImage <--Here is where I am getting this warrning messages
make modules
make modules_install
mv /boot/vmlinuz /boot/vmlinuz.old
cp /usr/src/linux/i386/boot/zImage /boot/vmlinuz
edit /etc/lilo.conf
/sbin/lilo
