By coincidence I happened to have this book open on my lap when I opened
up your e-mail. It's a very good book. In fact I don't know of any other
books on bash, although there are several books on the Korn and C shells.
The book _Beginning Linux Programming_, published by Wrox Press, starts
with a short intro to bash.

Haven't seen this yet.

I just bought this recently and haven't used it much. It seems to be very
clearly written, although for some of the topics you'll probably get more
detailed information from the HOWTOs. Note that SSC sells a version that
is cheaper, but I don't know if it is edited as well as the O'Reilly
publication. You can also read the original at

In my experience O'Reilly does not publish junk.
