Sure thing, one of our clients is in the medical/airline supplys
business. To begin with, we will be networking 8 terminals to one
central server, yes... I know this is small, but it gets better. They
are rapidly growing, and they need an open system, that they can modify,
and won't be obsolete in a year. I a year or two they will probably
link there central office to some branches on the west coast, then it
will get much larger, expanding into the factories etc. Nobody's sure
how big there system will get, that's why they got LiNUX! :-), cost is a
MAJOR factor. We provide a central server, then instead of our
workstations having 16M memory, harddrive etc, we can provide diskless
workstations for about $700, instead of $1700. We also provide them
with a remote maintainence contract, servicing them every week, update
etc... Since the terminals get all there information off the Server,
there only has to be ONE computer maintained, HUGE savings there,
basically we set the server up in our office, ship it, and install it,
there are NO costs associated with setting up terminals, except for the
wiring etc. When they decide to add on another 20 terminals, they will
be looking at very low hardware costs, and setup time about 10 minutes a
terminal. With our slightly modifyed version of LiNUX, we can offer
supperior reliability, 100%. (except in the event of a hardware crash
:-), in short...
1. Low Cost
2. Low Maintainence, setup time
3. High Reliability
4. Remote Maintainence <--- This is a biggy!
5. Prepacked with loads of software.
6. Open OS, free from constraints
To help the transition from Windows to LiNUX, we are keeping some of
their existing workstations with harddrives, but all new terminals will
be 8Meg, NO HD. We expect Window's to be gone in a few months.
Well, is that ok? I will include our advertisement in postscript
format... Looking forward to your reply.
