Pedro:

In response to your question about booting with an AHA2940 controller:

I have been helping a friend to install RH4.0 on a Pentium Pro with the
AHA2940 scsi controller. I have not yet tried the alternate boot disk in the
johnsonm directory at Red Hat, although I have high hopes for it.
I have found, however, that it is not sufficient to get the kernel to
recognize the controller as it always hangs when running mke2fs. You should
look at vitrual consoles 3 through 5 for error messages. They may reveal the
nature of the problem.

I have found the the boot parameter aix7xxx=no_reset allows the kernel to
recognize the disk drives in addition to recognizing the controller. This
may not be necessary with the a kernel that works.

The people at Red Hat have been really helpfull in this area, but it is
really a kernel problem. The linux-scsi mail list has reports of similar
problems with Slackware.
