What kind of hardware are you using? I know I get spoiled and kind of
out-of-touch with the average user because of the systems I use at work
(when you're using a P166 as an X terminal because it's the slowest
machine you've got, you know you need to do a reality check every now and
then :-), but decent video hardware makes your complaint disappear in a
hurry. A monitor that can crisply handle 1280x1024 or better being driven
by a decent accelerated video card should give you better quality text
than you can get from a terminal and scroll speeds that your eyes can't
possible keep up with.
I know, it's a question of money; but if you can afford it, decent video
hardware is one of the most rewarding purchases you can make. Just don't
get a job where you have high-end video hardware thrown at you: I don't
know how I'm ever going to adjust to life without my dual-headed 21" X
setup --or afford one of my own when it comes time to give this one up.
